Good Robot Report

by Boris Sofman, CEO & co-founder, Anki | November 27th, 2018

When we set out on our Anki journey 8 years ago, we were driven by the belief that robotics and artificial intelligence could offer huge benefits to our lives every day. We’re seeing it already today; commuters routinely turn to their phones to find out when the next train is due to arrive via AI powered apps, retailers use robots to pick and pack online deliveries for shoppers, while consumers go online to get their complaints answered by AI assistants without wasting hours on the phone. Robotics and AI are also playing an important role in banking, healthcare and manufacturing, but at Anki we firmly believe this should not be their limitation.

Robotics and AI has the power to transform how we interact with each other and how we interact within our home for the better, as well as how we view machines as more than just machines.

As we stand on the brink of a technological evolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another, we are building out our core robotics platform that will help drive the future of home robots. The symbiosis of EQ and IQ is what will have the greatest influence in determining what kinds of robots make it out of R&D; and take a prominent role in our daily lives.

But just like with the introduction of other transformational technologies, such as, radio and TV, mobile and the internet; if the potential of the positive benefits of the technology are to be fully realised, it’s important to understand what the people who will ultimately benefit from the technology really think about it.

This report is unique in that it offers invaluable insight on how consumers view a life with robots today and what they expect their lives with robots to be like in the future. It also gives some thoughts on how we all – governments, businesses, academics and consumers – need to adapt to ensure a future where humans and intelligent, general-purpose robots can live in a mutually beneficial way.

We hope you find it an interesting read and welcome your feedback as we work towards a future with entertaining and purposeful robots in every home, everywhere.
