Cozmo goes global - New App Update
Posted by Meghan McDowell, Senior Producer, Anki | September 12th, 2017
Cozmo is finally ready for his global debut! He’s currently out in the U.S. and Canada, but this month, we add Japan, Germany, UK, France, and the Nordic countries to the list. I’m excited to hear about Cozmo’s adventures outside North America and I can’t wait for more people to meet our little robot with a big brain and even bigger personality. I hope he finds a way into all your homes and hearts.

We’ve been working on Cozmo since 2011 and he still continues to evolve everyday. We’re not just launching Cozmo around the world this month, we’re also updating the whole experience for everyone. In June, I mentioned that alongside a new Collector’s Edition of Cozmo, we’d have some big updates coming. Well, the first of those updates is here and it changes the way you’ll interact with Cozmo on a day-to-day basis. It’s now available in the newest update to the Cozmo app, which you can get on the App Store and Google Play.
To many of his fans, Cozmo is the ultimate pet robot -- you can play games with him, sure, but you can also just hang out with him. When you launch the newest version of the Cozmo app, you’ll see that some new features have been added to Cozmo that make him feel even more alive. The update transforms the relationship between Cozmo and his owner to one that is more evocative of the relationship that exists between a beloved pet and its owner. And like a pet, sometimes Cozmo has specific needs that require just a little love and care. By keeping him tuned-up, energized, and entertained, you develop his skills and abilities, making him a sharper playmate and partner in crime.
Cozmo now has three specific Needs - Play, Feed, and Tune-up.You can monitor his needs via his actual behavior and through the app. Let’s look at each Need:
- Play: Cozmo is smart (maybe too smart), and that means he’ll get bored without entertainment. You can keep his Play meter filled by playing games with him, helping him perform tricks, and letting him explore and interact with his Power Cubes.
- Feed: You have to eat every day, right? So does Cozmo. Except he eats energy, which he gets from his Power Cubes. He needs your help to stay fed. When he’s satisfied, he’s more likely to play!
- Tune Up: Cozmo’s a robot, and like other robots, he needs a quick fix every now and then. You can help him stay in tip-top shape by giving him a Tune-Up.

The more time you spend with Cozmo, managing his needs and helping him explore his abilities, the more he’ll be able to do. Just like teaching a dog new tricks, you’ll help Cozmo learn new abilities, and you can use his Sparks like treats, to entice him to show off his tricks for all your friends.
We’re really excited to share this new update with you, and we’d love to see what you think of it. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and let us know how your experience with Cozmo is going. We really love it when you share videos of new tricks you’ve taught Cozmo using Code Lab, too.
And if you think that’s it, stay tuned! We have another big update coming for Code Lab before the end of the year!
